As part of my konomark project, I have been amassing a collection of photos I've taken on Flickr, which I have konomarked, to let people know that I am generally willing to share them for free, and that they are invited to ask me for permission to use them in their project.
In this day and age of harsh copyright law, konomark is a way being overtly neighborly on the internet. I've described more about my konomark project on PrawfsBlawg.
I'm pleased to report that at this point, konomarked photos on Flickr now number in the thousands. There are now about 5,000 konomarked photos on Flickr that I have uploaded, plus dozens more from a few other Flickr members.
If you are looking for photos to use in your project, search on Flickr for photos tagged with "konomark" along with whatever subjects you are interested in. There are photos from all over the United States, as well as a few from Japan and Canada. There are landmarks, vehicles, signs, abstracts, urban scenes, rural scenes, and much more.
If you have photos on Flickr, and you would like to let other people know that you are generally happy to share them for free, tag those photos with the word "konomark" and put the following explanatory text in the description of the photos:
This photo is KONOMARKED ("Most Rights Sharable"). If you would like to use this image without paying anything, e-mail me and ask. I'm generally willing to share. KONOMARK - Most Rights Sharable. Just ask me.
